Recession for Christmas?
November 15, 2008
What kind of a Christmas present is that? This seems to be the word online though. They are actually calling it “The Long Dark Winter.” Hmmm… that doesn’t sound so good.
If this is what’s going to happen, then I guess we ought to do a little “beforehand” preparation. Do some organizing and early shopping. Best bet would be to buy food or make food for gifts, such as cookies for gift giving. But do not spend 1 more cent than you need too.
It’s not like this hasn’t happened before, I can remember doing this years ago. You may not know this but the 1970’s were big “craft” years. Crafts flourished in the 1970’s and the 1980’s. It seems like after the 1980’s people stopped doing crafts because it wasn’t worth the time that you put into making the craft to get a couple of bucks for it.
I think we’re all heading back a “step” in time though. We’re going to have to get the creative juices flowing again, and make a lot of our own stuff. I’ve stocked up on crocheting yarn, just so I can make my own booties, crocheted hats, potholders, etc.
My mom sent me a box of thread and needles. It used to be that it was cheaper to make your own clothes, and prices may soon return to those days. My mom made most of our summer clothes during the 1950’s and 1960’s. She even made my prom dress. So make sure you have a sewing machine. We even used to make Rag Rugs out of old clothes.
Not sure how the new generation is going to react to this “make it yourself-do it yourself” age we’re coming into. Even my kids want stuff “now.” I suspect that the American lifestyle is going to change dramatically. All the grandmas and grandpas will be able to adjust, all the ones that have been living on credit and is in debt are going to be like a fish out of water.
Get prepared.. here’s a recession list of to-do’s.
